I was admitted into Chez Beauz on 8/17 - due to a pesky partial bowel instruction that has been leaving me nauseous & unable to eat for days at a time. The medical marijuana definitely is a big help - but sometimes internal plumbing has a mind of its own.
Anyhoo - a Picc line was inserted so I could get IV nutrition. An e-coli infection was discovered in the Picc line (which still has me baffled) & the Picc was removed. No Picc line = no IV nutrition.
I had a 'temporary' IV inserted in my neck so I could receive antibiotics/pain meds. Since my admittance, I've been NPO - no food or drink by mouth.

Yesterday, I went back to Interventional Radiology to have another Picc inserted & the staff said I needed to have another day of antibiotics before placing another Picc line. I asked the Dr how was it possible to have ecoli in the Picc line & he didn't know either.
They were unable to put in a tunnel Picc, & a single line Picc was inserted.

So I am thinking I'm finally on easy street with IV access - I have the 'temporary' IV + the Single line Picc.. To my dismay, a Dr on the vascular team came to tell me that neither the Picc line or IV is suitable for TPN. 0_o ! They are considering putting in a Picc line in the groin area (because my veins are completely fried)
Since I have an NG tube & unable to eat or drink my nutritional status is getting worse. Well, the day wasn't a total loss, I'm allowed to have the odd popsicle here and there.

ahh Chez Beaumont... good times XD

sweet lady, you have an immune system much like my own. when i had my last surgery in Feb, i came home with cellulitis, which as you might recall was inconvenient since my daughter was taking care of me IN ANOTHER STATE! hello dudes in white lab coats!! let's pay attention when people say this doesn't look or feel right! once i got over all of the little infections related to being in the hospital, i was ok. but it has made me become more of a shut-in than ever. D;

i do so understand. i hope you can get over this one soon. without picking up something else. ha! your surgical incision will be completely healed before the 2ndary infections at this rate! hang in there!
